After John's first wife, Jane, died in childbirth his children wanted him to re-marry another woman. John refused to do so. He wanted to marry Cornelia. His sons Tommy & William (one of which was dating Cornelia) got angry, packed up and moved to Texas, never to return.
John married Cornelia in 1895 and the Reverend Crouch performed the marriage. They were the parents of Herman, Emma, Mattie, Albert, Lula and John. Near the end of her life Cornelia moved in with her daughter Mattie and son-in-law, John Vernon Rideout on 17th street in Hopewell. Cornelia passed away in that home.
Cornelia was my Mother in Law, Lovelene's Grandmother. Lovelene spoke of Cornelia often and said she was very sweet.
Inscription on gravestone reads:
"Meet Me in Heaven"
