AUGUSTA, Ga. - Dr. Charles S. Scruggs, 86, of Augusta, GA, entered into rest on Friday, June 1, 2007, at 8:30 AM at his residence. He was born in Pulaski, Il. on Sept 10, 1920, son of Arthur and Effie Scruggs. Dr. Scruggs was a WWII Marine Pilot stationed at Midway Island, where he received 5 Distinguished Flying Crosses and 20 Air Medals. Following WWII, Charles graduated from Loyola University of Dentistry, Chicago, IL. becoming a dentist and oral surgeon in the United States Navy for 31 years, retiring in 1973. Following his distinguished Naval career, Charles Scruggs taught at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry for 14 years, retiring in 1987. Charles was also a lifetime member of the Military Officers of America, Navy League, American Legion, and Psi Omega Dental Fraternity, and Elks. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Geraldine Albritton Scruggs, of Snow Hill, North Carolina. Other family members include his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Terry Davis, of Berlin, Maryland, and son and daughter-in-law, Byron and Carmen Scruggs, of Augusta Georgia. Charles is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren and a sister, Polly Ford of Hayward, CA. He is preceded in death by his son, Cdr. Daniel Gerald Scruggs. Funeral Services will full military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. All services will be held at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Home in Snow Hill, NC Memorials may be made to Heartland Health Care and Hospice, 1365 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, Ga. 30909; or to Ocean City Baptist Church, 12637B Ocean Gateway, Ocean City, Maryland 21842.
