Charles David Scruggs, 82, of Madison, MS, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at home.
Visitation and memorial service will be at Christ United Methodist Church on Old Canton Road in Jackson on Monday, April 27, 2009. Visitation will be at 12 noon and the service will follow at 1:30 p.m.
A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bettye Estes Scruggs; his children, Ann and David Scruggs, Janet and Bill Scruggs and Dottie and Stephen Gozan; his grand children, David Scruggs, JR., Stacey Scruggs, Nathan and Kelli Horn, Rachel Horn, Shannon Scruggs and Celeste Scruggs; and great grandchild, Madelyn Horn.
Born in New Albany and brought up in Biloxi, he was in the Navy in WWII and graduated from the University of MS. He attended University of MS Medical School and graduated from University of TN Med School in Memphis. He practiced general medicine in Macon, MS and returned to UMC for a residency in urology. Dr. Scruggs practiced urology in Jackson for 50 years at the Jackson Urological Clinic and MS Urology Clinic.
David was a member of The American Medical Association, MS State Medical Association, Central Medical Association, Southeastern Section of the American Urology Association, and served as past president of the MS Urology Association.
He was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Jackson Yacht Club. His hobbies were sailing, hunting and story telling but his love was for his family and practicing medicine.
The family would like to request memorials in lieu of flowers be sent to Hospice Ministries or the charity of your choice.
