Norma Ayers "Hippy" Scruggs Getgood, 91, of Roanoke, passed away on her birthday, Friday, August 10, 2012. Norma was born in Roanoke, the daughter of Osa and Mary Scruggs. She graduated from Jefferson High School. She and her husband, Calvert, resided in Bluefield, W.Va. from 1962 until 1977, where she volunteered with the Red Cross. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Calvert D. Getgood; her parents; brother, O.B. Ayers, Jr.; and sister, Frona A. Richardson. Surviving are her son, James S. Getgood (Dianne) of Augusta, Ga.; daughters, Frona "Sissy" Poland, of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Barbara Goodwin (Steve) of Roanoke; grandchildren, Lauren Sports, Sarah Poland, Elizabeth Heist, Bonn Poland, IV, David Poland, and Alisa Goodwin; and great-grandchildren, Maya Sports and Holden Heist.
The family wishes to thank Emeritus of Roanoke for their dedicated and loving care over the last three years, as well as Gentle Shepherd Hospice.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Elmo McLaurin officiating. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel, Roanoke.
