BEARD Pearl Scruggs Beard passed away on September 16, 2006. She was born on June 20, 1913 in Independence, MS and had resided in Jacksonville since 1943. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years J.D. Beard. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Kelly (Mikey) of Ocala; her grandchildren, Jimmy Kelly (Cindy) of Jacksonville, Jan Jo Merians (Gary) of Ocala, and Mike Kelly (Becky) of the Villages; great grandchildren, Laura Kelly, Gary Merians, Jr. Kelly Merians, Michael Kelly and Jimmy Kelly, II., a special sister-in-law Modena Scruggs, niece Lynda Blount and many other nieces, nephews and special friends. Pearl was a former member of the Main Street Baptist Church and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She was a current member of the Murray Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years and the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. She was past president of the Ruth N. Upson Elementary School, PTA. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 from 6-8 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERALHOME, 729 S. Edgewood Avenue. A private burial will be Wednesday, September 20 followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 am at the Murray Hill Baptist Church, 4300 Post Street. The Reverend Jay Stuckey and Reverend Doug Axtel will preside. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Murray Hill Baptist Church, and/or Community Hospice of NE Jacksonville, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, 32257 and/or The Daniel Foundation, 4203 Southpoint Blvd., Jacksonville 32216.
