Geneva V. Scruggs Beverly, 79, a longtime Chester resident, died July 22 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
She was born in Salem County, Va. and was a resident of Chester for most of her life. She was educated in the Virginia schools. Mrs. Beverly had worked as a certified nursing assistant for Crozer Extended Care. Previously she worked for Mercy Convalescent Home in Chester, Mrs. Ann Hussey, Mrs. Hilda Watkins and the Clark family, all of Swarthmore. She first worked at Scott Paper Co.
Mrs. Beverly was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Chester where she was a member of the Mother's Club and the choir. She was a former member of the Hanna R. Purnsley Tent Sisters. She was a member of the Chester Branch of the NAACP.
Mrs. Beverly was the daughter of the late Zachary and Ella Jennings Scruggs and the widow of Charles Beverly Sr., who died in 1982. She was the mother of the late James "Brother" Beverly, Charles "Teddy" Beverly and Michael D "Mike" Beverly.
Survivors: Sons, Fred E Beverly of Manhattan, Kansas, and David L Beverly of Chester; daughters, Charlotte Beverly, Rosalind Gray, Lorna Campbell, Serena Lockett and Michelle Beverly, all of Chester, Janet Hayward of Claymont Del, Jennifer Beverly of Cherry Hill NJ and Lorraine Bonamy of Wallingford; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Bethany Baptist Church, 1121 Tilghman St., Chester.
Visitation: 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Earl L. Foster Funeral Home, 1100 Kerlin St., Chester, and 9-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
Burial: Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, Lower Chichester.
Contributions: Bethany Baptist Church Education Committee, 1121 Tilghman St., Chester.
The family will assemble at 1231 Crosby St., Chester.
