The Gridley Twice-A-Week Herald, Wednesday, December 30, 1914, pg 3 col 4: County Superintendent of Schools Succumbs After Lingering Illness. Oroville, Dec. 28 – Mrs. Minnie S. Abrams, county superintendent of schools and one of the best known educators in northern California, died at her home in Oroville yesterday morning at 6 o’clock. Death followed an illness of several weeks.

Following the conclusion of the last campaign, at which Mrs. Abrams was re-elected, she went into a state of complete collapse, and for a time her life was despaired of. She appeared to rally, however, and high hopes were entertained for her recovery. Early yesterday morning she was taken with a severe hemorrhage and the end came soon.

Mrs. Abrams, for years had been identified prominently with the schools of Butte county. She was an enthusiast in her profession, loving the work for its own sake. Her enthusiasm, her energy and her success attracted attention and in 1906 she was nominated by the republican party as its candidate for the office of county superintendent of schools. She was elected, and in 1910 was re-elected.

She was nominated in the primary campaign of August and again elected but the worry and the strain of the campaigns told severely upon her and her collapse followed close upon the news of her re-election.

Mrs. Abrams was fifty years old. She was a member of a pioneer Butte county family. Her father was one of the early editors of the Sacramento valley and established the Butte County Register, which later became the Oroville Register. The Register was first established at Biggs but later moved to Oroville, and since that time Oroville has been its home.

Besides her husband, C.B. Abrams, the deceased is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Fred Darneille; three sons – James Abrams, Charles J. Abrams, and William Abrams; and four brothers W.J. Sharkey of Oroville; George Sharkey of Humbug Valley; Armond Sharkey, of Los Angeles; and Frank Sharkey, of Arizona.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 1:30 from the court house porch. Burial was made in the Oroville cemetery.

The flag on the court house floated at half mast throughout the day, and the superior court adjourned for one hour while the funeral services were being held.
