JONES-Mrs. Elizabeth Shaw Jones died at 4:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. C. A. Peterson. Death was due to a paralytic stroke, following a one day's illness. Mrs Jones was born in Strambrough, England, May 23, 1837, the daughter of Paul and Ellen Fletcher Shaw. She was converted to the doctrines of Mormonism and emigrated to Utah in 1857, crossing the plains with a hand-cart party. The first year following her arrival in Utah, she lived at Kaysville and the next year she was married to William P. Jones. The young couple lived for a time in Kaysville and then moved to Wilson. Later they moved to South Weber, where the deceased resided until six years ago. At that time, she came to Ogden and had since lived with her daughter.
Her husband died at South Weber, in 1891. During her years of life in Utah, Mrs. Jones was an active church worker, a loving mother and a good neighbor and many persons will mourn her loss. She is survived by the following children: T.L. Jones, Sterling, Idaho; Mrs. C. A. Peterson and Mrs. Mary A. Herrick, Ogden; J. F. Jones, South Weber; John P. Jones, Logan; Mrs. Rebecca Whittier, and Mrs. Cynthia C. Carrigan, Peterson and R. J. Jones, Sterling, Idaho. One sister, Mrs. Ann Ray of South Weber, 37 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral announcements will be made later.
