Mildred O. “Mommie” (Shelby) Andrews, the third of thirteen children, was born in Kansas City, Kansas on April 25, 1926, to the union of Emmett and Helen Shelby.

Mildred took her walk to glory peacefully in the comfort of her loved ones on April 11, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard Andrews, Jr., her son, Richard Andrews III, two sisters, Albertine E. (Shelby) Cann and Carrie (Shelby) Roby, and five brothers, twins, Orville and Orvett, Paul, Cecil, and Quentin Shelby.

Mildred attended and graduated from Sumner High School in Kansas City, KS. She worked as an Elevator Operator at the Pick Wick Hotel and as a devoted Housewife. She loved watching game shows, playing cards and dominoes, talking on the phone to family and friends, going to the casino, listening to the blues, cooking for her family and closest friends, and going on road trips. She always looked forward to family functions.

She had a loving heart. “Mommie” loved her family. She was a strong, loving and dedicated mother and grandmother.

Mildred Octavia Shelby Andrews memories will be cherished by her children: Sharon Shelby of Belton, MO., Brenda Chatman of Kansas City, Missouri, Glenda “Punch” (Larry) Tuggle of Kansas City, Missouri, Rita Andrews (Dwight) of Kansas City, Kansas, and Ritha (Kenneth) Hergins of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; God-daughter Bonita Watkins; best friends, Irma Matthews and Barbara Hill; and a host of nieces and nephews, who she had a special love for, other relatives and friends.

A special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Shawnee Mission Hospital.

Funeral Services for Mildred Octavia Shelby Andrews will be Saturday, April 18, 10:00 a.m. at Canaan Baptist Church, 5333 E. Bannister, Kansas City, MO.

Visitation will be Friday, 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at The Lawrence A. Jones and Sons Funeral Chapel, 1800 E. Linwood Blvd.

Interment, Maple Hills Cemetery
