Charles S. Shelby, 72, of Clay City, passed away November 22, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis with his family by his side.

Chuck was born November 22, 1941, the son of the late Clayborne and Dorothy (Burton) Shelby. He served his country in the United States Navy where he was a medic. Chuck retired in 2000 from Polyone as a computer analyst, after 35 years of service. He married Elsie Day Jackson on June 21, 2003.

Chuck attended Union Chapel Church of the Nazarene. His passion was playing his guitar, singing, and having jam sessions with friends. He loved traveling and spending winters in Arizona with Elsie. His love for his family was as strong as his love and faith in God.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Roberta Shelby; father, and foster father, John Walton.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Elsie Shelby; mother, Dorothy Shelby; daughter, Kathleen Jackson (John Pipes); stepdaughter, Donna Klingler (John); stepson, Larry Jackson (Teresa); grandchildren, Christina Tincher (Scot), Jesse Jackson, Angela Gillin (Jamie); step-grandchildren, Jason Klingler (Anna), Julia Myer (Joe), Eric Jackson, Amanda Jackson, Ashley Ross (Adam), Heather Hawkins (Colin), Alex Jackson; 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Phyllis McQueen (Ed), Sandra Braden; foster mother, Oda Walton; foster brother, Jerome Walton; foster sister, Henrietta Gabriel; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


Funeral Information

Service will be Monday, November 25, 2013 at 1pm at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Pastor Highlander and Reverend Sorensen officiating. Visitation will be Monday at 11am until time of service. Per Chuck's request cremation will follow.
