C.M. SHELDON DIED ON SUNDAY
Bright's Disease Claims Former Resident of Warren County
Clarence Morey Sheldon, a former resident of Warren County, and a postal clerk who has been employed by both the Burlington and Santa Fe Railroads, passed away at 1 o'clock Sunday morning at his home, 642 North Cherry Street, after an illness of several months with Bright's Disease.
Clarence M. Sheldon was born January 18, 1871 in Berwick, IL, and died August 27, 1916, in Galesburg. He was the son of Anna and Burr Sheldon, early settlers of Warren County.
He grew to manhood in that same county, teaching his first school in Berwick. Later he taught in Bishop Hill and Victoria. In Victoria he was the first school principal to graduate a high school class.
The deceased attended school in Monmouth College and graduated from the Abingdon Normal in 1895. In 1901 he was married to Miss Florence E. West of Galesburg.
Mr. Sheldon entered the railway postal service in 1903 and served in the capacity on the Santa Fe, having a run between Chicago and Kansas City. Later he was transferred to the Rushville branch of the C.B. and Q. where he was active until February 1.
He was a member of the Central Church and took an active part in the offices of the Conger Bible Class.
The Railway Postal Clerk Association claims him as a member.
As a neighbor and friend he was held in the highest regard. He had a keen sense of humor with a ready ability to discuss almost any subject which would come up. During his illness he was patient to the last despite bodily discomfort and kept interested in all the affairs of the day. His loss is felt keenly by friends and neighbors.
There are left to mourn him his widow, one daughter, Lorraine, his mother Anna Morey Sheldon and a sister, Carrie.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the home.
