Rose was born to Jennie & Louis Sherman in Cincinnati, Ohio. Growing up she loved to go to the movies. Her claim to fame was in 1920 when she fell asleep in the front row of a movie theater and was photographed for the front cover of the newspaper. Growing up, Rose was a member of the glee club and the swim team and adored going to summer camp every year. To this day, she would still sing her favorite camp songs. Mildred, her close friend and co-worker in New York City, urged Rose to move to Pearl Harbor with her in the early 1940s where she eventually married Mildred's brother, Gabriel "George" Hament. In 1946 Rose, George, their daughter Lani, and Mildred's family (Mildred, husband Milton, and daughter Judy) all moved to Inglewood, CA and lived in a duplex together. 55 years ago the whole clan moved to Panorama City and bought houses next door to each other. Although Rose is regarded as a housewife, she worked part-time jobs throughout most of her life. When she wasn't putting in hours as a bookkeeper or taking dictation, she was out and about volunteering with the Red Cross or City of Hope. After Gabriel's passing in 1996, Rose continued to be the strong vibrant woman we all remember. She collected newspapers and bottles and took them to the recycling center (by herself) once a month. To keep herself sharp she took improvisation, Yiddish, and watercolor classes. She also enjoyed going on group trips to the Native American casinos. But mostly, she loved spending time with her friends and family. Rose is survived by her children, Lani (Hament) & Mort Feldbaum, Joel & Abby Hament, and her grandchildren Heather (Feldbaum) & Paul Kupferman and Benjamin Hament. Services were held at Groman Eden Chapel in Mission Hills at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2010, officiated by Rabbi Mark Goodman. (copied and slightly modified from memorial pamphlet created by Heather and Oliver).
