Ulrike M. "Peggy" Shirazi, 45, of Emerson died following a lengthy cancer illness on August 26, 1996, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Funeral services were Thursday, August 29, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Emerson. Burial was at Emerson Cemetery with Rev. Max Hall officiating. Ms. Shirazi was born April 12, 1951, in Marburg, Germany, to Marlon E. and Margarete A. (Koelling) Westenburg. Her father served in the military and their family lived in many foreign countries during Peggy's youth. She developed a natural love for traveling and was fluent in the English, German and Iranian language. While her father served in the Viet Nam war, the family lived in their home in Emerson where Peggy attended the Nishna Valley Community High School and graduated with the Class of 1969.
She was Past Worthy Advisor of the Wiesbaden Chapter of International Order of Rainbow For Girls. She attended college at Central State University in Edmond, Okla., and the University of Oklahoma at Norman. She married Abbass Shirazi on May 20,1972, at Tinker Airforce Base at Midwest City, Okla. The family lived in Oklahoma, Iran, Maryland and Texas before moving to Emerson in 1994. Ms. Shirazi was the Human Resource Manager for the Omaha office of the accounting firm of Cooper & Lybrand.
Ms. Shirazi was preceded in death by her father, Marlon Westenburg. Survivors include three daughters, Jaleh of Dallas, Texas; Zoey and Layla of Emerson; their father Abbass Shirazi of San Diego, Calif.; her mother, Margarete of Emerson; three sisters, Barbara Welch of Wylie, Texas; Janet Crouse of Hastings; and Ellen Westenburg of Minneapolis, Minn.
