Mrs. A.G. Fruits Is Dead
Mrs. Nellie S. Fruits, widow of the late San Benito County Sheriff Arthur G. Fruits, died suddenly Sunday in her Tres Pinos home following a prolonged illness. She was 76.
Mr. and Mrs. Fruits came to San Benito county in 1905 from Lake county. Their first home was at New Idria Mines, where he was foreman for the quicksilver company. Later, they moved to Tres Pinos where they lived until their deaths. The couple celbrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1950.
Fruits was sheriff from 1940 to April 1953, when he died. He also operated bus and freight lines from Hollister to the mines for 40 years. Mrs. Fruits had been in failing health since her husband's death.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Frank Galli of Tres Pinos, Mrs. Margaret Quackenbush of San Francisco, and Mrs. Andrew T. Humphrey of Alaska; a grandson, George McReynolds of Alaska; a granddaughter, Barbara Ann Allen of Needles; seven great-grandchildren, and a nephew, Warren Shore of Hollister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesdsay at 2 p.m. at the Black-Cooper-Ottesen mortuary chapel. Burial will be in IOOF cemetery here.
