Lillian Viola Showell Lee was born February 2, 1920, in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Joseph and Eula (Stewart) Showell. Lillian's mother was first generation free. She was raised in Raleigh and as a girl moved with her family to Buffalo, New York. She attended Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. Lillian served in the US Army and was stationed in England during WWII. While in France on VE Day she met her future husband Edward Lee, Jr. Lillian and Edward were married June 9, 1946, and after marriage they moved to Minneapolis. Lillian worked for 17 years for Hennepin County Social Services, retiring in the mid 80′s. During that time she received her Master's in Social Work. Edward passed away on December 7, 1990. Lillian remained in Minneapolis until moving to Faribault in 1997 to live with her son Skypp. She has been a resident of Three Links Care Center in Northfield since 2009.

Lillian was a member of Fountain of Life Gospel Church, Southside Singers and the American Sewing Guild – sewing being her true passion. Lillian was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her genuine kindness.

Survivors include children Beverly Ann (Ian) Cole of Auckland, New Zealand, Warren "Skypp" of Faribault, Clifford of Minneapolis; 2 grandchildren Jeremy and Keiko; one great-granddaughter, Mia; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Joseph Showell.

Lillian passed away Monday morning, January 6, 2014, at the Three Links Care Center, at the age of 93.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Friday, January 10, 2014, at Fountain of Life Gospel Church, 3952 – 10th Ave. So., Minneapolis with Rev. Jim Halbur officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Casket bearers will Skypp Lee, Tom Bailey, Jeffery Gilchrist, Craig Hedstrom, Jim Pence and Dan Warren. Visitation will be 4-7PM Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home and at the church on Friday one hour prior to the funeral.
