Clara Sophia (Sjögren) Beckman was born on February 12, 1835, in Billingsfors Bruk, Billingsfors Parish, Älvsborg County, Sweden. She was the second of eight children of Carl Jonas Sjögren II and Maja Stina Qvarfoth. On March 12, 1861, 26-year-old Clara married 31-year-old Jön Olofsson in Billingsfors Parish. They had six children, five who survived. She immigrated to Michigan UP at the age of 48 in 1883 with her husband Jon and three of their children. The other two children had already immigrated to the UP. Clara died on April 21, 1902, at the age of 67 from "old age" and bronchitis, in West Branch Township, Marquette County, Michigan.
