Obituary
Sophia Seagren was born at Foyra [Torpa], Östergötland, Sweden, November 27, 1857, and passed away from this life at her home in Burnside, Iowa, last Friday, January 18 1935, at the ripe age of 77 years, 1 month, 22 days. At the age of ten years, she came with her parents to the United States, settling near Dayton, where she grew to young womanhood. Here she was united in marriage, December 4, 1881, to Gustaf A. Freed, and lived on a farm near a place near Gowrie. In 1898, they settled on their farm west of Burnside, where the spent much of their active farm life. To their union, three children were born, a son and two daughters, Martin A. Freed of Palm Grove, and Mrs. Albin Sandell and Mrs. Myrtle Higgins of Burnside. She is also mourned by five brothers, Gust Anderson of Chicago, August and Fred Seagren of Curlew, Iowa, and Andrew and Eddie Seagren of Chyen, North Dakota, also two sisters, Mrs. Christine Christianson of Atlantic, Iowa, and Mrs. Henry Ekfelt of Delhi, Minnesota, together with nine grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Freed preceded her in death on July 14, 1931. She was baptized in the Church of Sweden and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Burnside in 1898, and were active in the work of the church until their death. She was a good wife and mother, a willing neighbor and friend, and a host of friends and neighbors join with her family in their sorrow. Her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Burnside Lutheran Church, her pastor, Rev. O. Nimrod Ebb, officiating, and burial was made beside her husband in Dayton cemetery.
