Gladys Hanson, 85, of Northfield died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1996, at the Edina Care Center in Edina. Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Northfield, the Rev. Jennings Feroe presiding with organist Ruth Ferguson and vocalist Winnifred Alberg. Pallbearers will be John, James, Richard, Thomas and Douglas Hanson and James Whitman. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery. Hanson was born March 8, 1911, in Lafayette to Charles and Alma (Youngquist) Sjogren. She grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus Academy in St. Peter in 1930. She graduated from Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in St. Paul in 1933. Hanson married John Willard Hanson on Nov. 29, 1941. In 1943 they moved to Northfield when John was named physician and director of College Health Services at Carleton College. Hanson enjoyed being a homemaker and being around her family and friends. She spent her summers working in her garden both here and at their cabin on Cass Lake. Survivors include three sons, John (and Deanna) Hanson of Deer River; James Hanson of Cass Lake; Richard (and Cynthia) Hanson of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren, Linnea, Grace and Lukas; a sister Florence Wagner of New Ulm; two brothers, Harry Sjogren of Thief River Falls and Robert Sjogren of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. J. Willard Hanson; a sister Lucille Lokensgard; and brothers Clifford and Russell Sjogren. Arrangements were made by Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
