He was born May 8, 1899 at Wilkinsburg, PA. He married Ruth Stegall on September 24, 1942 in Kahoka, MO.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Herbert A (Rosemary) Johnson of Galesburg; one sister, Mrs SL (Ethel) Brockway, of Galesburg; two grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was a clerk for the Burlington-Northern railroad and led Smitty's Night Owl's Band. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the Ralph M Noble post of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, Elks Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Federation of Musicians. He was a veteran of World War I.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 10 AM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with Dr. Ordell Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 PM.
