Mr. Smith was born in Knox County October 3, 1891, and was a lifelong resident of Galesburg. His marriage to Blanche Brooks took place here December 24, 1912. He was employed as a machinist at the Butler Mfg. Co. His church membership was Methodist.
Surviving are the wife; two sons, Archie of Chicago and Walter E Jr of Galesburg; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Viola) Cummings, Mrs. James (Violet) Hix and Mrs. CD (Iva Jean) Maher, all of Galesburg; a brother, Edwin Smith of Nebraska; a sister, Mrs. JM (Elizabeth) Pearson of Galesburg, four grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3PM in the First and Puckett Funeral Home. The Rev. John H Clarke will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday afternoon, evening and Sunday at the CD Maher residence, 720 W Brooks. St.

Funeral services were conducted today at 3PM in the First and Puckett Funeral Home for Walter E Smith Sr., 62, of 220 Cottage Ave, who died Friday.
The Rev. John H Clarke of Cambridge officiated. Mrs. Paul Clausen was the vocalist, with Mrs. Clifford Pearson as accompanist. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Lynn, Martin Maher, John Hulick, George Hale, Marshall Mundy and Gerald Hix.
