She was born July 6, 1936 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Louis P. and Myrtle Ireland New. She married James F. Smith on March 17, 1961 in Galesburg, he preceded her in death on April 22, 2011.
Susan is survived by her eight sons, Pete (Doris) Smith of Good Hope, Illinois, James (Arlene) Smith of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jack Smith of Eugene, Oregon, Jerry Smith and Thomas (Judi) Smith both of Galesburg, Richard (Cindy) Smith of Enid, Oklahoma, Randy (Tina) Smith of Maquon, Illinois, Robert (Nikki) Smith of Wisconsin; five daughters, JoAnne Cox, Susan (John) McGraw, Rosemarie Raska, Rebecca (Dave) McGraw and Julie (Bill) McGraw all of Galesburg; two sisters, Laurie (Allen) Gain of Springfield, Illinois and Kathy Searl of Florida; 51 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren She is preceded in death her parents, her husband, her special friend, Robert Tingley and her son John.
Susan worked for Admiral/Maytag Corporation for 37 years, retiring on July 31, 1996. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1954. She was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 2063. Susan was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a member of the Ladies of Mary.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Monsignor Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday April 6, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
