Richard Smith, 52, of Grasmere, an elevator company employee who delighted in his children's activities, died Thursday at Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.

The Queens native moved to Grasmere in 1996.

Mr. Smith was an elevator troubleshooter for the McGlynn Hays & Co. in Manhattan. He had been working for the firm for thirty-three years.

He graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School, Brooklyn.

Mr. Smith was a coach for the East Shore Little League and the Cyclones soccer team of Holy Child R.C. Church, Eltingville. He also enjoyed golf and was a fan of the New York Giants.

"He just enjoyed watching his son play sports and his daughter perform in her theater group," said his wife, the former Ann Dempsey.

Mr. Smith was a parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach.

Surviving, along with Ann, his wife of twenty-one years, are his son, Conor; his daughter, Alanna Smith; his father, Richard; and his brothers, Michael and David.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday from the Hanley Funeral Home, New Dorp, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
