STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Maureen Pickering, 47, of Eltingville, a registered nurse who will be remembered for her generosity, kind-heart and deep love for her family, died Friday in New York University Medical Center, Manhattan.
She was born Maureen Smith and was raised in Stapleton. In 1994, she settled in Eltingville.
Mrs. Pickering graduated from Curtis High School in 1985. She later earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the College of Staten Island, Willowbrook.
She worked for four years as a registered nurse in the emergency department at Staten Island University Hospital, Princes' Bay.
She was outgoing, social and loved spending time with her family. She always had a smile on her face, family said.
She was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, they added
She loved Christmas shopping and the spirit of the holidays.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Charlie; her son Charlie; her daughters, Theresa and Jackie Pickering; her brothers, William, Michael and James Smith and her sister Patricia Heyne.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, with a mass at 11 a.m. in St. Clare's R.C. Church, both in Great Kills. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp. (S.I. Advance)
