Delorisann Marie Smith was born September 19, 1918, the daughter of Louis and Rosalie (Genin) Smith, at Belleville, Wisconsin. She graduated from high school in 1936 and attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She served as an aerographer's mate in the United States Navy during World War II. Following the war, she attended Ripon College and the University of North Dakota and received both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from UND.
She married Ernest Pletan on January 6, 1945 at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. Ernest died on August 30, 1984. She taught school at West and South Junior, retiring in 1986.
She is survived by, a son Ernest (Cris) Pletan-Cross, Kailua, Hawaii; a daughter Judith (Gene) Thompson, Lincoln, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Monica, Rebecca and James. She is also survived by a brother, Raphael (Helen) Smith, Stoughton, WI, and sisters; Medora Vetter, St, Paul, MN, and Therese Carter, Janesville, WI, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by, her parents; a brother, Louis Bradford Smith and a sister, Eugenia Scheiber.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to St. Michael's Bridge Builders, St. Michael's Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Mass of Christian Burial: 2:30p.m. Wednesday February 14, 2007 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday with an 8:00 p.m. vigil service followed by a rosary service in St. Michael's Catholic Church and one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Wednesday.
Burial: Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Minneapolis, MN.
Military Honors: At. St. Michael's Catholic Church by, members of the American Legion Post 157 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, East Grand Forks, MN.
