Geneva Smith, 65, of Sheldon, originally from Rock Valley, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. Visitation with family will begin at 11 am and Funeral Service at 1:00 pm Tuesday, all at Bethel Reformed Church at Sheldon. Burial at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Geneva Ruth Vander Bok was born August 28, 1943 to Wilbur and Jacoba (Veltkamp) Vander Bok in Grand Rapids, MI. After graduating from Hull Western High School she worked in Rock Valley and Sheldon while attending NITC. Geneva married Roy Jager in 1963 and Jack Smith in 1975. In 1993 she moved to Denver and worked for MCI at the Denver Tech Center. Geneva moved back to Sheldon in 2000 and managed Prairie Ridge Apartments owned by T and L Properties. Geneva was a wonderful mom who always tried her hardest to provide for her children.
Geneva is survived by 2 sons, Randy Jager of Sheldon, Robert Jager of Thornton, CO; 3 daughters, Julie Strickler and friend, David Getzel of Hospers, IA, Deb (Dwayne) Hakeneis of Sheldon, IA, Angie (Josh) Sailor of Sheldon, IA; 13 grandchildren; 2 sisters Carol (Jim) Statema of Sheldon, Sandra (Robert) Olson of Hopkins, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
