Gertrude M. Baeszler, 91, of Brick, New Jersey, a native Staten Islander and a homemaker, died Sunday at Sunnyside Manor Nursing Home in Wall, New Jersey, where she had been residing for the past few months.

Born Gertrude M. Smith in New Brighton, she moved to Stapleton during the 1950s. The graduate of Curtis High School also lived in Shore Acres and West Brighton before settling in Brick in 1976.

Mrs. Baeszler was a parishioner of St. Martha's R.C. Church, Point Pleasant, New Jersey. While living on Staten Island, she attended St. John Baptist de la Salle R.C. Church, Stapleton.

"She loved living on Staten Island and often reminisced about its history. Aunt Gert was the matriarch of our family, a devoted wife, and will be missed by her nieces and nephews," said her nephew, Jim Smith.

Mrs. Smith's husband, Capt. William J., a retired Sandy Hook pilot, died in 1994.

The funeral will be held on Thursday from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Martha's Church.
Entombment will be in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt, New Jersey.
