Patricia Ann Amis, 45, of New Brighton, a published author, certified social worker, businesswoman and advocate for the elderly and victims of domestic abuse, and who is remembered as beautiful inside and out, died August 26, 2014 at Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton.

Born Patricia Ann Smith in Manhattan, she was brought to Staten Island when she was a year old and grew up in Stapleton. She settled in New Brighton in 2003.

She modeled for Barbizon during her years at New Dorp High School, where she graduated with honors in 1986.

Mrs. Amis earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Wagner College, Grymes Hill, and did three years of postgraduate study in social work at New York University, Manhattan.

She worked as a representative for the former NYNEX and as an assistant tobacco enforcement coordinator for the city Consumer Affairs Department. She then became a certified social worker for various agencies, including the Jewish Community Center, and was an anti-violence counselor and caseworker at the Community Agency for Senior Citizens and a social worker at St. Vincent Manor, a senior housing complex in Port Richmond.

Mrs. Amis was the published author of "Snatched from the Fire," which detailed her own experience with an escape from domestic violence. She also established a sportswear company called SFTF, finding a way to encourage domestic violence survivors, donate money to charities that assist victims, and run a for-profit business.

She was a tireless advocate for seniors, and was the founder, host and co-executive producer of Elderview, a talk show on Staten Island Community Television. She received the 2013 NOVA award for the program.

Mrs. Amis was a member of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and the Staten Island Economic Development Corp.

She received the William A. Morris Humanitarian Award from the Staten Island Chapter of the NAACP in 2011.

Mrs. Amis loved music and as a young woman enjoyed singing and playing the violin. She enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, going to the country, fishing, relaxing around the house, and just being a homebody.

She touched many lives with her kindness, love, and concern, family said.

"She was my partner and best friend," said her husband, Reginald (Reggie) Amis. "Her death has left a void that cannot be filled." The couple had been married seven years in June.

Mrs. Amis was a member of Temple of Restoration, Brooklyn.

Surviving, along with her husband, are her son, Steve Fenton, Jr.; her daughter, Rachel Fenton; her step-sons, Gregory, Rahmel, Joseph, and Anthony Amis; her goddaughter, Alyssa Ezell, whom she was helping to raise; and her sister, Denise R. Smith.

The funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in Glorious Church of God in Christ, New Brighton.
Burial will take place on Wednesday in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
