LYONS -- Dorothy S. Durant, 74, died Jan. 5 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.
She was born in Emanuel County and attended Georgia public schools. She lived in New Jersey most of her life and moved back here four years ago. She was a medical companion for the Levy family in New Jersey for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. Phillips Baptist Church in Swainsboro.

SURVIVORS: a son, James Snell of Lyons; seven brothers, Leviticus, Charles and David Smith, all of Vidalia, Sonny Smith of Philadelphia, Frank Smith of North Augusta, S.C., Ronald Smith of Soperton and Donald Smith of Bridgeton, N.J.; six sisters, Ruby Cunningham of Miami, Mona Turner of Willingboro, N.J., Rosa Mae Johnson of Jersey City, N.J., Mae Alice Bennett of Maryland, Janette McCloud of North Augusta and Garnet Jones of Houston; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.

VISITATION: all day Friday at Vidalia Funeral Home in Vidalia.
FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Phillips Baptist Church, burial in Swainsboro City Cemetery in Swainsboro. - Savannan Now, Jan 1999
