Bonnie Smith, 87, of Rock Valley, died Friday, September 5, 2003, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Funeral service was held Monday at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, IA. The Rev. Jerry Robertson was the officiant.
Bonnie W. Smith was born May 17, 1916, in Pella, Iowa, the daughter of Tunis H. and Jessie M. (Forsyth) Klein. She was raised in Pella, graduated from Pella High School and attended Central College in Pella. On November 24, 1937, she married John H. "Smittie" Smith, Jr. in Pella. After living in Carroll, IA and Dubuque, IA for a few years, she and Smittie moved to Rock Valley, IA, where she resided for 57 years. Smittie died May 23,1993.
Bonnie was a member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was active in the United Methodist Women and the Ruby Friendship Circle. She was also a member of the Just-A-Mere Club and the Hegg Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. For several years she owned and operated Smith Fabrics and wrote a weekly column in the local newspaper entitled, "And Sew-Forth."
Bonnie is survived by 2 daughters and their husbands, Penny and James Helgerson of Saint- Peter, MN and Debra and John Inskeep of Brownsburg, Indiana and five grandchildren.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Donald F. Klein.
