Ruth Elizabeth Smith Barton, 97, widow of Theron Earle Barton, died December 5, 2008, at National Health Care Mauldin.

A native of Greer, daughter of the late Lee Greene and Leila Byrd Mitchell Smith, she was a retired employee of Greenville County schools and a member of Taylors First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, James Earl Barton of Laurens; a daughter, Betty Barton Howard Pitman of Campobello; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Barton was predeceased by three brothers, John, Harold and Gordon Smith; and a sister, Lois Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Serenity Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park, conducted by Dr. Jimmie Harley.

Visitation will be held 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Serenity Mausoleum.

The families are at their respective homes.
