Germina "Jeri" Smith, 91, passed peacefully, Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Whispering Heights, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Saturday at Pioneer United Methodist Church, Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday with family present 7-8 pm at Porter Funeral Home.
Germina "Jeri" Smith was born August 11, 1920 at Sioux Center, IA daughter of John and Winnie (DeVries) Smith. She graduated from Sioux Center High School, attended the University of Northern Iowa, and received her BA degree from Eastern Illinois University. Jeri married James Smith of Sullivan, IL on July 26, 1945 at Rock Valley. She taught school for twenty-five years, mostly in Charleston, IL as fourth grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary. She was a member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church and belonged to the Ruby Circle. Her hobbies were playing organ, reading, and playing cards. Surviving relatives include sons, Roy (Mary) Smith of Pleasanton, CA, Thomas (Pamela Riffe) Smith of Fort Collins, CO, Michael (Lori Hanson) Smith of Oakland, ME, Dick (Karen) Wuchte of Milwaukee, WI; sister, Winifred (Jr.) Kooima of Rock Valley; sister-in-law, Jane Edgar of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Romany (Cheriese) Shanti, Patrick (Keia) Smith, Micah Hanson-Smith, Doug (Britta) Mouton, Tyson Risse-Smith, Travis Smith; great-grandchildren, Azelea and Rowan Shanti, Cooper and Clayton Smith, Kemper and Owen Mouton, Liam Alan.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 47 years, James; son John Robert Smith; brothers, John and Gerben Smith, sister-in-law, Bonnie Smith.
