Miss Cecile A. Smith, Galesburg Chapel 87, of Galesburg, died at 11:33 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2013 in Seminary Manor.
She was born January 14, 1926 in Galesburg the daughter of W. Robert and Cecile Adele (Drenning) Smith.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Smith of Indiana and Veronica Smith of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, the Barnstead family. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert Smith and Paul Smith.
Cecile worked at Knox College for over 40 years, retiring as the Assistant Director of Development. She was baptized at Corpus Christi Catholic Church and was currently a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Cecile graduated from Galesburg High School in 1942 and lived most of her life here. She was an avid reader and volunteered for the Galesburg Public Library. She had been involved with Prairie Players and the Galesburg Civic Art Center. Cecile was a member of the KLW, a Knox retirement group.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. The rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel followed by visitation until 7 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the mass with burial later at East Linwood Cemetery.
