Veda, Mom, Grandmommy was born in Cisco, Texas to Ernest and Myrl Sneed. She died Sunday at MD Anderson in Houston after a courageous battle with melanoma. She was surrounded by her sweetheart and husband of 62 years, Dan; her four daughters — Karen Vereeke, Pam Black, Terri Long and Dana Bell; and several of her grandchildren.

Veda's favorite sons-in-law are David Vereeke, Terry (Boo) Black, David Long, and Jim Bell. Her favorite beloved grandchildren are Matt Wolfe, Rachel Payne (and husband Rick) and Andy Vereeke; Travis and Callie Black; Ryan Krager (and husband Dane) and William Long; and Madeline and Morgan Bell. Her favorite great-grandchildren are Saxon, Lochlan, and Arista Payne. We will all miss her dearly.

Survivors include her brother, Ernest Sneed and his wife Nelda, and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents — our Mimi and Grandad — and her niece, Rena Barr.

Veda and Dan, natives of Eastland, were faithful supporters of the community and their beloved Class of 1949. As former EHS class valedictorian, football sweetheart and EHS Queen — Veda's love for Eastland continued until the end.

Mom was the gracious grapevine-master of our family, the "precious glue" that kept us connected and cared for. "Grace" is the word we would choose to have you know her by. If we got to pick another, it would be "joyful" — which we saw magnified throughout these past difficult days.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richardson for over 50 years, serving in many ways, loved and supported there by the best kind of friends – thank you angels! Her distinguished 35 year career in real estate was another way she touched lives and was blessed by friends. She ran her race with endurance for the joy set before her, and is now in His presence.

Services will be at 2 pm, Thursday, Aug 8 at the First Baptist Church Richardson. Graveside service will be Saturday at 11 am at Eastland cemetery under the direction of Bakker Funeral Home in Eastland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson Melanoma Research.
