Sarah Francis (Snow) Huckabee is the daughter of Calvin Houston Snow and Jane Owen.

Wife of John Henry Huckabee, married May 15, 1909 in Newton Co., Ark.

Mother of Valdine Huckabee (died as an infant), Darlene Huckabee, Eugene Huckabee, Helen Huckabee-Penkunas, Nina Huckabee-Womack, Ina Huckabee-Hulls-Sweet, Ruth Huckabee-Tillman and Geneva Huckabee-Hubbard.

Great Gramdma Sarah was the 7th of 12 children. She had a very humble childhood, growing up in Newton Co., Arkansas. She was born in a log cabin. Her father was a pioneer baptist minister, farmer, teacher and a justice of the peace. Her father insisted ALL of his children be educated. They all worked the farm in the winter and went to school in the summers only. He never taught his own children.

Sarah was very industrious and close to her family. She could cook a meal for 20 even if there were only 10. She remained very religious her entire life. She belonged to the penecostal faith. She had hair down to her ankles and would braid it and pin it up on top of her head and she only wore dresses.

My mom lived with her when she was in college in the mid 60's. My mom was working in the hat and glove department of Sears at the time and came home wearing a wig which was also sold in that department. My great grandma asked my mom "Barbara Joan, what are you wearing on your head?" My mom replied "Grandma it's just a wig, everyone is wearing one" to which my great grandma replied "Well when they start wearing feathers up their [rear end], I hope you get the biggest one". I don't know why I think that is funny but I do. I guess because great grandma was a no nonsense woman and because we have all said to our parents at one time that "everyone is doing it".
