Betty Lou Hagen, age 81, of Ellis, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the Hays Medical Center. She was born April 8, 1930 in Zurich, Kansas to Benjamin and Daisy (Homan) Sparks. She attended school in Zurich and Palco. She married Oscar F. Hagen on December 2, 1948 in Ellis. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2002.

Betty was a homemaker and had worked at Travenol, Holiday Inn and Adronics/Elrob. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis Ladies VFW Auxiliary currently serving as treasurer and a past president. She was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by two sons, Ralph Sparks of Hays and Rex Hagen of Ellis; three daughters, Annys (Danny) Pfannenstiel, Ellen Berry and Gloria Hagen all of Hays; a sister, Amy Hanely of California; four grandchildren, Jody Hagen of Hays, Justin and Russell Berry of Colby and Laurel Sparks of Washington and two great grandchildren, Mykaela and Krystian Hagen of Hays.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; a grandson, Benjamin Sparks; and three brothers, Robert, Irvin and Guy Sparks.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial will follow services in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Saturday 1:00 P.M. – service time all at Christ Lutheran Church. A prayer service will be at 7:00 P.M. Friday at the church. Arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS. 67637.

Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society or Christ Lutheran Church.
