She was born in Francis and was a life long resident of Putnam County, having lived most of her life in Peniel. As a child she used to walk the Peniel Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She was a charter member of the Palatka Church of God where she had served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a missionary and had a heart for missions, having served for 5 months in South Korea. She had visited many of the churches in the area.

Stella was the daughter of Eugene Stacey and Hattie Rosette Smith


She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Hampton Barber ; 1 daughter, Jeanette Hurst; 4 sons, Gettuce Barber , Buddy Barber, Kelly Barber; Keith Barber; 2 grandsons, Eddie Bartlett and Terrance Bartlett ; 4 sisters and 5 brothers.


Surviving her are 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Verell and Nadine Barber of Palatka and Ronnie and Janet Barber of San Mateo; 8 daughters, Geneva and Curt Ott of Palatka, Irene and Winston Moore of Palatka; Loraine and Leon Bartlett of Palatka, Trenda and Dale Bryan of Palatka, Reba Hess of Palatka, Peggy and Dale Burns of San Mateo, Glenda and George Cummings of Green Cove Springs; Gail and Paul Bowers of Jacksonville; 32 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 30 great- great-grandchildren
