Burline was named after her mother's much loved sister, Burline Dismukes, who married John Eagle, and spent her adult life in Arkansas.

Family history indicates Burline was born in Louisiana, as and moved to Arkansas, and soon after 1850, moved with family to Texas.

Burline's mother,Juliann Dismukes Stacy and infant brother, John F. (Swinney?) are not found after the 1850 Arkansas census, and Burline herself is not found again, until her marriage to Samuel Chesley Davis. After that time, Annual Census records are found for Texas, and City Directory Records indicate that Burline and husband, Sam, were confectioners in Sherman, Denison County, Texas.
