Charles Allen Stain, 83, died peacefully at his home on July 13, 2010, following a short bout with pancreatic cancer.

Family visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 16, at Golf Course Road Church of Christ, with Charlton Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

He had been under the care of Hospice Midland since June 13, 2010. The family expresses their deepest appreciation to the nurses, aides, and other personnel who were so kind and compassionate during Mr. Stain's illness.

Mr. Stain was born in Cheapside, Gonzales County, Texas, on December 7, 1926, the only child of Charles E. and Lillie Mae (Lord) Stain. He attended elementary school in Cheapside and San Antonio, and graduated from Cuero High School in 1943, at age sixteen. He immediately enrolled in Texas A & l, Kingsville and attended for two years prior to entering the U. S. Air Force in July 1945. After his basic training in San Antonio, Mr. Stain was stationed in Mississippi, Colorado, Hawaii, Guam, and Tokyo, Japan. He was honorably discharged in March 1947. On September 12, 1947, Mr. Stain and Mary Louise Starnes were married in Odessa, and became the parents of three children. Their daughter Sandra was born in Odessa; sons Gary and Steven were born in Hobbs, New Mexico. The family also lived in Lubbock before moving back to Odessa in 1956. In 1960 the Stains moved to El Paso where they lived for nineteen years. In 1979, Mr. Stain was transferred to San Antonio and he and Mary made that their home prior to moving to Midland in December 2001 to be nearer their family. Mr. Stain was a devoted Christian and a member of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland. He served as a church elder for many years at the North Loop Church of Christ in El Paso, and the Ventura Church of Christ in San Antonio. The Stains were involved in nursing home ministries for many years in San Antonio and Midland. Mr.

Stain was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Steven.

Survivors include his wife of almost sixty-three years, Mary Louise; daughter Sandra and husband Larry Smart; and son Gary and wife Leslie all of Midland. Five grandchildren: Amy Hassan and husband Nash; Christopher Smart; Becky Smart; Kristin and husband Garrett Luft; Shelley and husband Ben Fietz. His seven great-grandchildren are: Ashley, Kayla, Caitlin, Annie, Hudson, Hayden, and Madison. Also, surviving are his sister-in-law Patsy and husband Ray Pugh of Fairborn, Ohio, and their children; cousins, Norman Dow and wife Diane; Bill Wilson and wife Judy; and Jim Pease.
