SOUTH BEND - Ruth J. Lutes, 87, passed away on Wednesday, April 20th, in Fountainview, Mishawaka. Ruth was born on December 6, 1923, in Mishawaka, to John and Bessie (Nupert) Steinhauser. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by a niece, Becky Shuey. On September 24, 1949, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, she married Earl N. Lutes, who preceded her in death on May 22, 2002. Surviving are her son, Michael Lutes of South Bend; sisters, Helen Piercy and Betty Brittain, both of Mishawaka, and Virginia Dyer of Hartford, MI; sister-in-law, Norma Howard of Mishawaka; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Waidner of Morrow, OH; and by her nieces and nephews, Dennis Brittain, Cindy Burkett, Jamie Dyer, Jerry Howard, John Howard, Marty Howard, Ruth Ann Woods, Carolyn Lampel, Dee Riehl and Andy Waidner. She moved from Mishawaka to Marcellus, MI, in 1950. She worked as a secretary for Harry's TV in Marcellus for 15 years and retired in 1984. She moved back to Mishawaka in 2005. Ruth was a member of St. Margaret Mary in Marcellus, MI, and Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend. Ruth was a kind and loving person. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. As per Ruth's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place and there will be a graveside service on Saturday, April 30th, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, with Steve Nani officiating. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements. Contributions may be made in memory of Ruth to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
