ORD - Roger Dwight Stethem, 60, of Ord died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Valley County System Health System in Ord.

A celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Stethem was born Oct. 26, 1951, at Martin, S.D., to Glenn and Dolores (Petrik) Stethem.

Survivors of the immediate family include his mother, Dolores Stethem of Ord; one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Lisa Stethem; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammi and Eric Knutson and Jennifer and Jeff Grooms, all of Ord; two sisters, Donna Bennett of Hastings, Deb Bonchosky of Las Vegas; and a brother and sister-in-law, Rock and Julie Stethem of Burwell.

Additional survivors include eight grandchildren, Justin and Jade Stethem, Kaisha Knutson, Jenessa and Jianna Grooms and Abby, Austin and Addison Stethem; two great-grandchildren, Sediah Stethem and Jailyn Bloom and an expectant great-grandchild.

He was raised in Nebraska living north of Whitman and then the family moved to Ord. Roger attended rural country school in Valley County and graduated from Ord High School in 1970. During the summers of his high school years, he worked at Great Houses Ranch near Hyannis. On Nov. 28, 1970, Roger was united in marriage to Pat Vampola at Ord. To this union three children were born. During his working years, Roger was employed at Scheideler's Contracting Company and in 1984; he went to work on the Calamus Dam Project as a welder. After the completion of the dam project, Roger worked in the Maintenance department at the Valley County Hospital.

Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed following his family to their sporting events and activities. He especially enjoyed softball. He has been a member of the Ord Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn and a brother-in-law, Mick Bennett.
