Many immigrants came to America looking for a better life, but endured many hardships and must have experienced great loneliness in their new country. Mr. Strindberg came to America in 1904 but had an unfortunate and sad ending to his life.

Bemidji Daily Pioneer, Front Page, July 7, 1920. Lengthy account is somewhat shortened.

Albin Strindberg [sic] unmarried farmer living about 4 miles southwest of Nebish, ended his own life at his home sometime between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning by blowing himself up with a stick of dynamite.

Strindberg was living alone on a small farm practically isolating himself from his neighbors and it is believed that despondency caused him to take his life. The suicide was evidently long planned since a letter written in the Swedish language was found on the body and in this letter he told of a mysterious trouble which he had been confronting for some time. This was dated June 20 and placed in an envelope which had been sealed. On the envelope he had written "Nebish, June 29" showing that several days were spent in completing this letter.

On Sunday morning a neighbor and his family, planning to pass by his house to a strawberry patch close by, stopped there with a pail of milk for him. Finding the door locked from the inside and knowing that he must have been at home, since he always locked the door with a padlock when any distance away, the neighbor looked in a window in the bedroom and saw the body lying there on the bed.... He immediately informed the town board at Nebish and an investigation followed.

On the bed was found a piece of fuse such as he commonly used in setting off dynamite and about the room were several pieces of dynamite as well as fuse and caps. An old razor was also found on the bedding but this had not been used in ending his life.

His brother, Peter, of Tower City, N.D., arrived Monday and assisted in preparing the body for burial. About two weeks previous to committing suicide, Mr. Strindberg had written to his brother stating that he was lonely and despondent at Nebish and asked him if he could secure work right away in Dakota with him. The brother had written and sent his answer that he could come there at once but the letter had not been called for and was found in the Nebish post office after the brother reported this communication.

Funeral services were held at Nebish yesterday and interment was made in the Nebish cemetery. Mr. Strindberg was 42 years of age.
