Kathleen Mary O'Connell (nee Sullivan), 70, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on April 16, 2015. A longtime resident of New City, NY, Kathleen was born on December 13, 1944 in New York City to James Patrick and Nellie Sullivan. Kathleen received her Bachelors from Mount Saint Vincent College and her Masters from Hunter College. She was a proud educator, first working at Cathedral High School as an English teacher, then spending 27 years as an advisor and administrator at Dominican College of Blauvelt. Kathleen was an avid reader and supporter of the dramatic arts. She also loved traveling to Ireland to see her many relatives. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Terrance. She is survived by her children Terrance J. O'Connell of Chestnut Ridge and Jennifer E. Rys of Austin, TX as well as her twin grandchildren Declan W. Rys and Amelia N. Rys. She is also survived by her brother Jeremiah J. Sullivan of Tulsa, OK. Family will receive visitors on Saturday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass will take place Monday 10:00am at St. Augustine Church, New City followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
