Archival Remembrance:

Sister Mary Sweeney was perhaps one of our best known Sisters, although thirty-six years of her life were spent at St. Cecilia School in Scranton. Music was her field, and the excellence of her teaching was evidenced in the large number of students who came to her each year. She enjoyed teaching music to a large number of students in our mission schools of Holy Rosary in Scranton; St. Rose in Carbondale; St. John in Scranton; and St. Cecilia in Exeter. For thirty-six years, she taught at St. Cecilia Academy, now known as Cathedral School, in Scranton. For the past eight years she was a dear patient in the Marian Convent. Here her innate courtesy manifested itself. She was always pleasant and gracious to everyone. Her deep love for the Community and her devotion to her religious life continued to support her in her declining years. Her prayerfulness was a source of edification to all. She quietly awaited God's summons, which came May 7. May God grant her eternal rest.
