During this period of time hospitals would put babies in incubators with high concentrations of oxygen damaging the retinas of the eyes causing permanent blindness. Though Sherry was blind all her life she was very active. As a child she attended The Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing and in 1966 she received her diploma from the school. She then attended Mercy College in Detroit where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree and then went on to Western Michigan University to earn her Masters Degree. On Oct. 13, 1984 she married Robert Hancik and moved from Michigan to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where they made their home. Sherry worked as a tutor for Northampton Community College. She was very active with Lehigh Valley Chapter for the Pennsylvania Council for the Blind, serving as a past president. She was an active member of the Lions Club, an avid reader and together with her husband would host Old Time Radio Shows both at Northampton Community College and also from their home. Sherry had several leader dogs and truly loved her leader dog companions. Sherry is survived by her two sisters Linda Maday and her husband Gary, Kathy Luethjohann and her husband Joel, two brothers William Taylor and his wife Carol, and Robert Taylor and his wife Kathy, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her aunts Vada LaPan and Maxine Taylor. In keeping with Sherry's dedication to others who are blind her corneas were donated to the Eye Bank and though she was never able to see she will help someone else to see.
Sherry's cremains were buried with her husband Rob's so they could be together forever.
