Marjorie Eileen Akeson, 78, of Northfield, formerly of Wabasha, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1996, at the Northfield Hospital. Akeson was born June 21, 1918, in Dundas to Thomas A. and Hattie M. (Eldred) Taylor. She was raised in Dundas, and graduated from Northfield High School. She attended one year of college before marrying Raymond L. Akeson on July 30, 1945, in Dundas. Following the marriage, they moved to Carver, where they operated a funeral home. Later they moved to Chatfield where they owned and operated the Boetzer-Akeson Funeral Home until retirement in 1972. Besides helping her husband at the funeral home, Akeson worked at a local chicken farm. Following retirement, they moved to Wabasha, where she lived until moving to Northfield in 1995. She was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Wabasha. Survivors include a niece, Sharon Nord of Dundas; three nephews, Russell DeMann of Wilmington, N.C., Norman Kaatz of Conroe, Texas, and Jackie Taylor of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 1976; a sister, Evelyn Kaatz; and a brother, Eldred Taylor. Services were held Dec. 13 at Bierman Funeral Home, the Rev. Joseph Hopwood officiating, with Mary Zoe Scott as organist and Winnifred Alberg as vocalist. Interment will be at Groveland Cemetery in Dundas. Arrangements were made by Bierman Funeral Home.
