Irene C. Teng, 87 of Grand Island born into eternal life Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Apfel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Pavuk officiating.

Inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Teng was born, October 31, 1925 in Ord, Nebraska the daughter of Howard E and Clara (Hansen) Barnes.

She attended school at Ord through the eighth grade at which time her family moved to North Loup where she attend Barker Country School. She graduated from North Loup High School with the class of 1943.

Following graduation she went to work at KMMJ Radio.

She was united in marriage to Raymond L. Teng on June 6, 1954 in the Methodist Church in Grand Island.

The couple made their home in Grand Island.

After staying home for a time, she began her employment with Sawyer Optical; first part-time and then full time working there for 20 years. She was employed by Grand Island Hearing Aide where she worked 18 years.

Mr. Teng preceded her in death, December 5, 2002.

After his death she began to work part time for Heartland United Way and other non profit agencies.

She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.

She had a flare for decorating and loved to keep her home as well as garden with her husband.

Mr. & Mrs. Teng shared 48 years of marriage together and he was her greatest joy.

Survivors include one brother and sister in law, Clifford and Marion Barnes of Holdrege, Nebraska, sister in law, Shirley Schanek of Grand Island.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
