Herman Teng Sr Taken by death
Herman Teng, Sr died at 5:35 this morning at the home of his son, Herman Teng, Jr on a farm two miles east of St Libory. Mr Teng, who was nearly 89 years of age was stricken with a heart attack last night. He had been ill less than a week.
Born in Germany, February 15th, 1851, Mr Teng was educated and baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the land of his birth, coming to the United States at 25 years of age. He first located at Lake Genevieve Wisconsin where he married Miss Kate Hatter. Nine children were born to this marriage.
After seven years in Wisconsin, the family moved to New Hampton IA, and came to Nebraska in 1900. The family since has made it’s home on the farm in Howard County Nebraska. His wife died 12 years ago and a son passed away in infancy.
Surviving are four sons, Charles of Grand Island, Herman Jr., and Fred of St Libory and John at Palmer; four daughters, Mrs Martha (Hans) Leschinsky of St Libory, Mrs Emma (George) Schmidt, Mrs Ella (Herman) Niemoth and Mrs Kate (Ernest) Lamm, all of Grand Island. 20 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a brother Carl Teng of Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Geddes funeral home. Rev L Lohr will conduct the rites and burial will be beside the grave of his wife in Wiegert cemetery. Added by Kathy Leschinsky
