Death Takes Mrs. Emma L. Schmidt
Rites for Long-Time Resident of Community To Be Held Sunday
Mrs. Emma Louise Schmidt, 64, widow of J. George Schmidt, died shortly before 7:30 o'clock last night at a local hospital. Mrs. Schmidt had been in failing health for a year and entered the hospital Wednesday following a stroke.

Services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Geddes funeral home with Rev. C. B. Harman, Lutheran clergyman, officiating. Internment will be in the family space at Grand Island cemetery.

Mrs. Schmidt, nee Teng, was born Feb. 24, 1880, at Lake Geneva, Wis., and spent her girlhood at Cresco, Ia., where she married J. George Schmidt Sept. 8, 1897. They came to Nebraska in 1900, locating on a farm near St. Libory, and farmed in the Phillips community before coming to Grand Island in 1907.

Since the death of her husband May 22, 1938, Mrs. Schmidt operated the grocery business they purchased 16 years ago at the intersection of South Locust street and Stolley Park roads. She lived at 1609 south Locust street and was a member of St. Paul's English Lutheran church.

Surviving are a son, Harry Schmidt, this city; two daughters, Mrs. George B. Sanders of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Glenn George of Laramie, Wyo.; a grandson, Pvt. Gale Schmidt, now in France; a granddaughter, Donna Lee Schmidt, this city; four brothers, Charles and John Teng of this city and Fred and Herman Teng, Jr., both of St. Libory, and three sisters, Mrs. Hans Leschinsky of St. Libory and Mrs. Ernest Lamm and Mrs. Herman Niemoth, both of this city.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock Saturday night at the funeral home.
