Vera L. Board, 81, of the Sugar Camp Community of Mineral Wells, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 4, 1933, in Wood County, a daughter of the late Rudy L. Tennant and Waneta Eaton Tennant.

Vera retired from Value City Furniture and had been employed with Renmare and Misty Manufacturing. She loved the family vacations to the beach, NASCAR racing, cookouts, fishing, gardening, canning and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving is her husband, Opie D. "Dick" Board; one son, Larry Board of Mineral Wells; and two daughters, Beverly "Sue" (Ed) Boice and Nancy L. VanMeter, both of Mineral Wells; and three precious grandchildren that were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them, Skyler Boice, Brett VanMeter and Chase VanMeter; five brothers, Blaine (Ruby) Tennant of Rockport, Larry Tennant of Mineral Wells, Victor (Billie) Tennant of Parkersburg, Richard (Margaret) Tennant of Mineral Wells and Gary Tennant of Mineral Wells; and two sisters, Ruth (Paul) Lemon of Mineral Wells and Wanda Snider of Davisville. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Clark; a sister-in-law, Maxine Clark; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Simmons.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th Street, Parkersburg. Rev. Jeff Mayfield will officiate and burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today.

The family would like to express their thanks to Housecalls Hospice, Missy and Pat and all others that helped with her family to care for her.
