Young man and young woman from Ursinus are lost.
Miss Edna K. Thomas, of Royersford, one of the victims-went boating last evening-Bodies were found in the Dam this morning.
Collegeville, June 3.-A sad double drowning accident occurred here some time last night. The victims are Fred, Fogleman, aged 25 years, of Mulhall, near Pittsburg, Pa., and Miss Edna K. Thomas, aged 17 years, daughter of Edward R. Thomas, president of the Royersford National Bank. Both were students of Ursinus College, this place.
The couple were last seen last evening about 7 o'clock when they left on a boating trip. This morning the dean of the college announced at the chapel that Fogleman and Miss Thomas had not appeared at the dormitory and he advised an immediate search for them.
As the two young people had been seen leaving on a boating trip a large number of students hurried to the Perkiomen Creek. At a wharf above the dam a boat was found which had been occupied by the unfortunate young persons. In the boat was a coat belonging to Fogleman and a bunch of keys.
Horace Thomas, a brother of the unfortunate girl, dived into the water of the creek and after several efforts he succeeded in bringing the bodies of the victims to the surface. Fogleman had grasped the girl in an effort to save her from a watery grave. The accident occurred in about twelve feet of water. The bodies were recovered about 8:30 o'clock. They were taken to Ursinus College and later will be sent to their late homes.
Miss Thomas was the only daughter of E. R. Thomas and was a member of the Junior Class of the college. She was a popular vivacious girl. She had one brother Horace, who is much affected as a result of his sad discovery this morning.
Fred. Fogleman was the son of a physician at Mulhall. He was a member of the senior class which holds its commencement exercises next Monday and Wednesday. He ws an honor man.
Miss Thomas is well known in this section. She was a granddaughter of Edward Kepler, of Sanotoga, near Pottstown.
It is believed that the couple were about to land at the wharf when the girl fell overboard. Fogleman tried to rescue the girl and leaped overboard after her. He was not a good swimmer and impeded by the weight of the girl he sank, together with Miss Thomas.
The couple were very popular in college circles and the drowning has cast a gloom over the college town.
